This website is the result of collaboration between the Unione dei Comuni del Circondario dell’Empolese Valdelsa (Confederation of Municipalities) and the Museo Galileo (Florence) to mark the occasion of the fifth centenary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci. Its aim is to raise knowledge and awareness of the close relationship that existed between Leonardo and the land where he was born and grew up, and to encourage a form of tourism that focuses on the culture and history of this territory where the artist left an indelible mark.
The website provides a detailed analysis of the places most closely associated with Leonardo, concentrating on the city of Florence and its immediate surroundings, and on the region of Empolese Valdelsa. Evidence of Leonardo’s activities in many other parts of Tuscany are noted, and more detailed information on these localities will be added to the website in due course.
